[origin: EP0893167A2] The rolling apparatus (1) has a hot rolling group (2) preceded by furnaces (3, 3') which in turn are preceded by at least two continuous casting machines (4, 4'). Shears (5, 5') are located before and, if required, after the furnaces. Each casting machine is provided with a long furnace and the furnaces are transversely movable from the casting lines (11, 11') into the rolling line (12). The furnaces are subdivided into segments (7-10; 7'-10') which are transversely movable individually and independently of one another. Also claimed is the operation of the above apparatus, utilising the individual transverse mobility of the furnace sections for nearly continuous rolling of long cast strip segments.
