[origin: DE19615323A1] In a peripheral pump with an impeller (2) rotating in a pump casing (1), friction losses are reduced by recesses (15, 16) in the faces (3, 4) of the impeller (2) interconnected by a channel (17). A slight leakage of the fluid to be conveyed is extracted by sealing gaps (14) between the faces (3, 4) of the impeller (2) and the pump casing (1) via the channel (17). The impeller (2) thus continuously floats on a film of fluid.
