[origin: EP0894966A2] The piston (10) has a cooling channel (16) in the piston head with inlet (32) and outlet (34) openings. A tubular chamber (26,36) is provided extending parallel to the piston skirt (20) and from an opening extending from the cooling channel. A cut out (24,38) is provided extending at least partially longitudinal the tubular chamber, with an inbuilt position in the lower wall of the tubular chamber upwardly in the direction of the piston crown. The coolant duct can be widened in the area of the gudgeon pin eyes.
