[origin: EP0903244A2] The method involves using a stationary print head, and a transport arrangement which is moved in at least one alternative printing position (II), and is controlled by a control mechanism (40) in such way, that the print carrier (3) is transported in a first X direction, and that the transport arrangement is moved back in Y direction, vertically to the X direction, to a first printing position (I), when all print orders have been processed. The method involves using a print head which is not moved during printing, and a transport arrangement (1) for the print carrier, which is adjustable in print direction. The transport arrangement is moved in at least one alternative printing position (II), and is controlled by a control mechanism in such way, that the print carrier is transported in a first X direction, and that the transport arrangement is moved back in Y direction, vertically to the X direction, to a first printing position (I), when all print orders have been processed.
