Abstract (en)
A bin has a base container (10; 40) and a flap (14; 54) at or on top of the base container, the flap being movable to allow items to be deposited into the base container when the flap is in its open position. Drive means (20, 30; 64, 70) are provided for opening the flap, the drive means being actuated by an electric motor (18; 60). The drive means includes a pinion (20; 64) for rotation by the motor and a drive connection (30; 70) between the pinion and the flap, whereby rotation of the pinion by the motor opens the flap. At least the pinion can be rotated in the flap opening direction without actuating the motor, thereby allowing the flap to be opened manually in the event of failure of the motor to actuate the drive means. <IMAGE>
