Abstract (en)

[origin: WO9743205A1] The invention concerns a saddle of which the stirrups are each held on the stirrup leathers (5) via a safety device (11). The safety device (11) comprises an insert part (12) which can be inserted into the stirrup eye (13) and has projections (17a, 17b) for engaging at the front and rear over the lower stirrup eye bar (21). An upper part (22) is connected to the insert part (12). The upper part (22) has an eye (29) for the stirrup leather (5), a recess (25) for holding an upper bar (26) of the stirrup eye (13), and a mounting (31a) for a cover plate (27) which can be moved manually, without any auxiliary devices, from an insertion position into a closed position. In the insertion position, this cover plate (27) uncovers the recess (25) for the upper stirrup eye bar (26) so that the insert part (12) can be inserted into the eye (13). The cover plate (27) is further mounted and designed such that, in the closed position, the recess (25) is covered by the upper stirrup eye bar (26) which can be introduced thereinto, and is released only when the stirrup exerts thereon a pivot force exceeding a safety limit.
