[origin: EP0904806A1] A unit has a housing (1) with a supply pipe (2) for the extinguishing agent, a carbon dioxide (CO2) supply pipe (4) with a dosing valve (3), and an outlet pipe (5). The housing has a vertical longitudinal axis and the extinguisher pipe is connected to the bottom of the housing, while the outlet pipe is connected to the top. The CO2 supply pipe joins the housing at the top and extends down to the bottom, with a nozzle (6) at the end. The CO2 moves in the opposite direction to the extinguishing agent, and the pipe length between the dosing valve and the nozzle is such that a gas cushion forms downstream of the valve when it is closed.
