Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0905473A1] The forward end (3) of the projectile has an additional guide shoe (4) which is made from at least two segments (7). The segments are connected temporarily to the body (2) of the projectile by pins which shear as a result of the relative recoil as the projectile accelerates inside the barrel of the gun on firing, and are ejected as it leaves the barrel. The additional forward guide shoe has an inner surface matching the outer surface of the corresponding section of the projectile, with an axial gap between the two at the nose end of the projectile to permit the relative recoil. The rear guide shoe (6) is positioned so that it holds the deployable stabilizers (12) in their retracted position until the rear shoe has left the barrel, when it is ejected by a pyrotechnic charge, rupturing along lengthwise fracture lines.
