Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0906961A1] In the production of double reduction quality steel strip for deep drawn container manufacture, aging is carried out between the two final cold rolling passes following recrystallization annealing. Steel strip, for manufacture of deep drawn containers, is produced from a hot rolled strip of steel of composition (by wt.) up to 0.08 % C, ≤ 0.020 % Si, 0.05-0.60 % Mn, ≤ 0.020 % S, ≤ 0.020 % P, up to 0.018 % N, up to 0.060 % Al, ≤ 0.06 % Cu, ≤ 0.040 % Ni, optionally Cr and B, balance Fe and impurities by cold rolling, continuous recrystallization annealing and cold rolling to final thickness in two passes separated by aging at ≤ 300 degrees C for several minutes to several days. An Independent claim is also included for a double reduction type steel strip which is used for manufacture of deep drawn containers and which has high mechanical strength and good formability, the strip having (i) a first network of dislocations formed during the first double reduction pass and pinned by carbon and/or nitrogen during aging treatment and (ii) a second network of dislocations formed during the second double reduction pass.
