[origin: EP0907067A2] The method involves detecting the measurement data at discrete times, to obtain data pairs (Bx0-Bx4,By0-By4) with mutually orthogonal components of the Earth's magnetic field. The plotted data at least partly lie on the periphery of an ellipse (E), in a plane spanned by the sensor's measurement directions (BX,BY). The data pairs are transformed onto a unit circle (K). The data pairs are transformed onto the unit circle starting from their position in the data collection for determining direction information or angle information.
