Abstract (en)

[origin: DE19628217A1] The present invention makes it possible to recognise a breakdown of the front axle braking circuit without adding a manometric switch to the front axle braking circuit. For this purpose, the disclosed braking system has an electronic computing unit which observes the wheel slip difference between front axle and rear axle when driving on a straight road and which compares the speed differences between left and right front wheel and left and right rear wheel when driving in a curve. If the rear wheels turn more slowly than the front wheels without any brake slip control or if the wheel speed difference at the rear axle is larger than the wheel speed difference at the front axle when driving in a curve, a front axle brake circuit breakdown is signalled, provided further criteria are met. Any electronic brake power distribution which may be in effect at the time is then stopped.
