The unit includes an ear piece that fits in the ear and has a hearing tube (12) inserted into the hearing channel. The unit contains an electronic sound generator (2) coupled a converter ()4 and is powered by a battery (6). The sound generator produces a pulsed tone sequence and noise. The period, frequency, amplitude, bandwidth and noise spectrum can be varied.
