[origin: EP0911588A1] The procedure consists of maintaining the mean temperature of the upper volume (5) sufficiently above the mean temperature of the lower volume (4) so that a narrow intermediate turbulent zone is formed between them, providing a horizontal barrier. The two volumes are swept independently by fluids injected separately into the upper and lower volumes and recovered at points adjacent to the intermediate mixing zone (3). The procedure confines pollution generated in upper and/or lower volumes of a chamber filled with a fluid such as air or water by thermal stratification. The fluids can be the same or different and are injected so that the vertical component of the turbulence speed is minimal.
