[origin: DE19627376A1] The invention relates to a novel use of artichoke (cynara) extracts, in particular dry extracts, optionally in combination with echinacea extracts and/or stinging nettle (urtica) extracts for the preparation of drugs and orally-administered drugs. The invention relates, in particular to the use of dry artichoke (cynara) extracts also in conjunction with echinacea and/or urtica extracts for preparation of drugs for treatment of diseases of the small intestine (damage caused by medication or infection), of the bone marrow (aplasia and insufficiency, for example as a result of agranulocytosis caused by medication or radiation), of the thymus (dysfunction, aplasia or hypoplasia), of the spleen (dysfunction), lymph nodes (aplasia or hypoplasia as a result of damage caused by drugs or radiation) for adjuvant therapy, also in conjunction with chemical drugs, of analgesia, liver, pancreas and kidney diseases, of hypertonia and malignant tumours, in particular carcinoma of the breast, portio vaginalis cervicis, colon or prostate. Dry cynara extracts are also suitable for cellular immunostimulation, for treatment of leucocytopenia, granulocytopenia, lymphtocytopenia, erythroytopenia and immunoglobulin deficiency states, and also for clinical pictures caused by bacteria or viruses, such as inflammatory diseases of the small intestine, the pancreas and the kidneys, hepatitis A, B and C, skin lesions (ulcus cruis) herpes simplex I and II and herpes zoster.
