Abstract (en)
[origin: GB2315471A] A multiple axle trailer consists of a main chassis which is articulated to a tractor unit and is rotatably mounted on a sub-chassis 1 about an axis 21. The rotation of the main chassis on the sub-chassis 1 causes links 18, pivotally connected at ends 19 to a steering mounting on the main chassis, to steer the front and rear trailer wheels through bell cranks 15, track rods 11 and steering arms 10. The steering mounting is movable to shift the ends 19 from one side of the median longitudinal axis 9 to the other to reverse the direction in which each wheel is steered for a given direction of relative rotation between the two chassis, required when the tractor/trailer combination is reversed. Other embodiments have one link 18 and a link interconnecting the two bell cranks 15 (Fig. 6) or links directly connected to the steering arms with no bell cranks (Fig. 7).
