[origin: EP0913354A1] The escalator has a balustrade with a sloping structure and a handrail (3). The balustrade base contains a light (7) for illuminating the stepped or pallet belt (1.1). The light acts as a support for components (6) of the base (5) and/or of the balustrade structure. The back of the light is in the form of a reflector.
