[origin: WO9802515A1] A dishwasher detergent composition containing an alkali-metal silicate with an average molar ratio of SiO2 to M2O of 1 to 4.2, preferably 2.5-4.2, where M is an alkali metal that is non-corrosive for glass, crystal, porcelain and decorative prints and at its use concentration generates a washing medium with an Si(OH)4 protonated silica monomer concentration of at least 2.5 mmole per litre of the washing medium, is disclosed. The use of said composition for preventing or controlling the corrosion of glass, crystal and porcelain items and of decorative prints on glass and porcelain as a result of repeated washing in a dishwasher is also disclosed. Furthermore, a washing method using said composition in a dishwasher is disclosed.
