Abstract (en)

[origin: DE19631042A1] A road construction machine for milling roadways has a self-propelled chassis with a steerable front axle (6) and two independent rear support wheels (14, 16). A stand (4) for the driver is arranged in the area of the rear support wheels (14, 16) on a machine frame (8) carried by the chassis. A milling machine (20) mounted in or on the machine frame (8) is flush with the machine frame (8) at one side thereof, namely at the so-called neutral side (24) of the machine frame (8). A driving engine supplies the power required to drive the milling machine (20) and the self-propelled chassis. The rear support wheel (16) at the neutral side can swivel from an outer end position (26) which projects beyond the neutral side (24) into a retracted inner end position (28) in which the support wheel (16) does not project beyond the neutral side. The swivelling support wheel (16) can be swivelled from the outer end position (26) into the inner end position (28) by means of a gear which lies in a horizontal plane.
