[origin: EP0916603A1] The apparatus winds or unwinds a material web onto or from a winding reel, around whose periphery a protective fitting is arranged. The protective fitting (11) comprises a number of rollers whose rotary axes are parallel to the winding axis. The rollers are flexibly coupled together at right angles to their rotary axes.
