Abstract (en)

The invention relates to a process for the making of paper or a corresponding fiber product, in which process a cationic chemical is added to the paper or the corresponding fiber product in order to render hydrophobic the paper or the corresponding fiber product, the cationic chemical having the formula <CHEM> where R1, R2 and R3 are the same or different and are each a saturated or unsaturated acyclic, cyclic or aromatic hydrocarbon containing 1-41 carbon atoms, R4 is a saturated or unsaturated acyclic, cyclic or aromatic hydrocarbon containing 1-41 carbon atoms and at least one oxygen atom, and X<-> is an anion. The invention also relates to a cationic chemical which has an ability to attach to anionic surfaces.
