[origin: EP0819480A1] The appliance has a shield with a cleaner device at the front, and coupling to a brake unit. The brake unit has at least one clamp element. This adheres instantaneously to the pipeline wall, and moves relative to the brake unit. The movement displaces a secondary fluid, which is braked via at least one throttle point, to determine the speed between shield and pipe wall. The clamp element has at least one roller. The roller is born in the brake unit, pressed radially against the pipe wall, and displaces the secondary fluid by its rotation.
