The device can be actuated depending on a control signal from a control unit (7). The control unit (7) has a signal receiver (9) for receiving data and determining the momentary position (x, y) of the railway vehicle (1) and a processing device (10) which compares the momentary position (x, y) of the railway vehicle (1) to positions (Ax, Ay) stored in a storage device (11). When the momentary position (x, y) of the railway vehicle (1) matches one of the stored positions (Ax, Ay), the processing device (10) generates a signal for triggering or ending the lubrication process.
