Abstract (en)
The apparatus to give an indirect application of a liquid or paste coating to a moving web, especially of paper or cardboard, has a spreader (32) which is aligned across (Q) the direction (L) of web (18) travel. It has an orthogonal lie, and is fixed on a local plane of the material. The spreader is a doctor rod (32) with a smooth surface, or it is a drag blade against the web, using a bending blade (32) or a stiff blade. The spreader (32) evens out the applied coating medium, without any removal, as the web (18) moves past the spreader station (30) round a supporting roller (36). The spreader has a cooling system to cool the doctor and preferably also its holder, and a unit (38) wets the doctor with a spray of steam. The spreader station (30) is a maximum 200 cm from the coating applicator (12), and preferably 50-200 cm. The running time of the web (18), between the applicator (12) and spreader (30) stations is 0.01-1.0 seconds. The coating is applied by a roller (12), with the web (18) passing at least partially round it between the applicator (12) and counter (20) rollers. The linear pressure on the web (18), between the rollers (12,20), is 5-30 kN/m. The counter roller can also be used as an indirect coating applicator, and a further spreader station smoothes the coating on that side of the web as a holder for a doctor.

Eine Vorrichtung (10) zum indirekten Auftragen eines flüssigen oder pastösen Mediums (16) auf eine laufende Materialbahn (18), insbesondere aus Papier oder Karton, umfaßt ein Auftragswerk (14) zum Aufbringen einer Schicht des flüssigen oder pastösen Mediums auf die Oberfläche (12a) eines Übertragselements (12), welches mit der laufenden Materialbahn (18) in Kontakt steht und die Auftragsschicht an diese überträgt, und eine Egalisiereinrichtung (30) mit einem gegen die Materialbahn (18) anstellbaren Egalisierelement (32) zum Glätten der an die Materialbahn (18) übertragenan Auftragsschicht (26). Das Egalisierelement (32) ist dabei in Querrichtung (Q) der Materialbahn (18), d.h. in einer zur Laufrichtung (L) der Materialbahn (18) im wesentlichen orthogonal und in einer lokalen Materialbahnebene verlaufenden Richtung, feststehend angeordnet. <IMAGE>
