[origin: EP0921223A2] The hosiery garment has a welt (7) with at least one field worked into it, at least at one part of its periphery, which extends over several rows of stitches and wales. The field has rows of stitches with at least one floating yarn (15) which restricts the stretch in the peripheral direction. The floating yarns (15) are knitted into the stitches flanking the structured fields, and can be cut where they float to increase the stretched width of the welt. At least one field (14) with floating yarns (15) extends over the width of the welt (7) across the peripheral direction. The welt (7) has a knitted edge, turned over if required, which is free of the floating yarn fields (14). The floating yarns (15) lie on only one side of the knitted material, at the inner side of the welt (7), and they have a different color and/or structure from the other yarns in the knitted hosiery and have a different dye take-up or reject dyestuffs, or contain a dye repellent. Outside the fields (14), the floating yarns (15) are knitted in with the other stitches at least partially as plain-knit single jersey rows. The stitch loops of at least one ground yarn extend into the fields (14) with floating yarns (15). The knitted material has at least one elastomer floating yarn, knitted in with the ground yarn in a single jersey knit. A second ground yarn has the stitch loops extending in the fields (14), and the fields (14) are knitted with a third ground yarn in a plain-knit single jersey, and are knitted together with the stitch loops at the sides of the fields. The knitted material, outside the fields of floating yarns, has at least rows of stitches in the order of single jersey 2:2 tuck and 2:2 float, single jersey 1:1 tuck, single jersey plain-knit, and single jersey 1:1 tuck. The knitted structure within the fields of floating yarns has rows of stitches in the order single jersey 2:2 tuck and 2:2 float, single jersey plain-knit, single jersey 1:1 tuck, and floating.
