Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0921263A1] The panel consists of a core (1) and at least one layer of lead (2A) acting as an anti-radiation screen. It also has a thin layer (3) of a heat conducting material with a high melting point, located between the lead layer and the core, designed to disperse the heat produced when the lead layer melts on being subjected to an accidental increase in temperature. The heat conducting layer is of copper and less than 0.6 mm thick to limit the stresses on the core; it is stuck to the lead layer with adhesive. The core of the panel is made from a high-density timber material, e.g. compressed particles. Where it has two layers of lead on either side of the core they are at least 0.4 mm thick.
