Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0921506A1] The automatic system encourages correct hand washing procedures, linking the operation of the tap and door lock. The system provides control of access to a toilet cabin which includes a hand washing basin (3). The hand basin includes a tap (4) and a sensor which detects whether the tap is turned on or not. There may also be a sensor using an electromagnetic signal to detect the presence of the hands under the jet of water. These sensors are used to control a device (100) associated with the door lock (10), such that the door is automatically locked when the hand basin is in use. The locking of the door may be effective for a certain minimum duration once use of the hand basin is detected. A manual over-ride control may also be provided.
