One side of the chainsaw housing has a saw arrangement with a guide element protruding from the front, and has a saw-chain rotating continuously around the guide element on a chain-plane parallel with the side of the appliance. Each of the two opposite facing housing-sides (11) has a driven point, each with a driven shaft-end-part (15) which may each have a driven wheel for driving the saw-chain, of both end parts of the driven shaft may have a driven shaft wheel.

Eine als Handgerät ausgebildete Kettensäge weist ein eine Handgriffanordnung (3, 4) tragendes Gerätegehäuse (2), eine im Gerätegehäuse (2) angeordnete und einen Antriebsmotor (6) enthaltende Antriebseinrichtung sowie eine im Bereich einer Geräteseite angeordnete Sägeeinrichtung auf, die ein am Gerätegehäuse (2) angebrachtes, an dessen Vorderseite vor dieses vorstehendes, schwertartiges Sägeketten-Führungselement (8) und eine am Umfang des Führungselements (8) gelagerte, endlos umlaufende Sägekette enthält. Im Bereich der beiden einander entgegengesetzten Geräteseiten ist jeweils eine Abtriebsstelle (15) für den Antrieb der Sägekette vorhanden. Die Sägeeinrichtung (7) ist wahlweise im Bereich der einen oder der anderen Geräteseite anordenbar. <IMAGE>
