[origin: EP0922832A1] The retaining mechanism for a roller shutter with metal slats, is able to roll onto one or more reels (6) turning on a fixed shaft (7) with the aid of spiral compensating springs (12) equipped with retaining members designed to stop the shutter dropping in the event of compensating spring failure. The outer end (17) of each compensating spring is connected to a locking member (20) which moves on the corresponding reel. Each locking member is able to move in the direction of a static component (30) fixed to the shaft (7) and engage with one of its teeth (35). The locking member is held at a distance from the static component by the compensating spring and moves in a direction which is substantially tangential to the reel's axis of rotation.
