Abstract (en)

[origin: WO9840888A1] A disc device in which the place where discs are arranged is commonly used and thereby whose size is small. The disc device comprises a plurality of stockers (501, 502, 503, 504) in which discs (R) are so stored that the rotary axes of the discs (R) are substantially aligned with each other, stocker transfer means (510, 520) which transfer the stockers (501, 502, 503, 504) to predetermined positions, and a disc driving means (400) which drives the discs stored in the stockers (501, 502, 503, 504) to rotate. The stocker transfer means (510, 520) transfers at least either a desired stocker or another stocker in accordance with a command so as to produce a gap ( theta 1) between the desired stocker and another stocker and, further, transfers the desired stocker and the stocker facing the predetermined surface of the desired stocker so as to further widen only the gap ( theta 2) between the desired stocker and the stocker facing the predetermined surface of the desired stocker.
