[origin: EP0924067A1] A roller for handling printed material without smearing has a foil cover (18) with perforations (36) to apply an air cushion or to apply a suction grip. The air ducts (28) inside the roller are connected to the foil by inserts (22) with distribution holes (24). The inserts are embedded into the surface of the roller. A simple design has insert strips in a parallel array distributed over the surface of the roller.
