[origin: EP0925859A1] The side strips (21, 22) consist of change and holding elements (23, 27). Each change element (23) consists of copper and has a U-shaped configuration, with its parts (24) facing away from the mold cavity (13). The holding element extends into the interior of the change element, and is releasably connect to its parts (24). Also claimed is a method for changing the side strips. After clamping of the side strips is released, the change elements are extracted from the mold in a direction substantially parallel to the slab extraction motion, while the coolant supply and removal connections are left together with the holding elements in the mold. Next a new change element is introduced and clamped in place.
