Abstract (en)

[origin: WO9812565A1] Magneto-optical sensor (1) to measure current intensity (1) with the aid of temperature dependent Verdet constant (V) of a fibre coil (3) placed in an electromagnetic field produced by electric current (i). The temperature dependent decay period ( DELTA t) of the fluorescence of a fluorescent material (6) placed near the coil is measured and the pertaining temperature (T) of the coil and the Verdet constant value (Veff) pertaining to the temperature are determined so that the current intensity can be established. The method can be used in current sensors and voltage sensors.
