[origin: WO9808421A1] The invention concerns a shelf system comprising vertical support uprights which are provided with a reinforcement and have superimposed rows of slots in which sheet steel shelves can be engaged at their narrow sides. On their longitudinal sides the shelves comprise front and rear strips which are bent at right-angles. According to the invention, the slots in the support uprights face the narrow sides of the shelves, and the ends of the strips comprise, as extensions, pairs of engaging tongues which have a support edge which, when the shelf has been assembled, rests on the base of the slot in the support upright. Downwardly directed securing elements are located on at least one pair of support edges. One of the pairs of engaging tongues is wider than the opposite pair, such that, when they have been introduced into the slots in the support uprights, they can be moved back in order to introduce the opposite support edges into the corresponding slots of opposite uprights.
