Use of formamidinium salts (I) as bleach activators is claimed. Use of formamidinium salts of formula (I) as bleach activators is claimed; R<1>-R<4> = 1-24C (hydroxy)alkyl, 2-24C alkenyl, 2-24C chloroalkyl, 1-24C aminoalkyl, aryl, 1-4C alkylaryl or 1-4C alkoxy-(1-4 C)-alkyl; or NR<1>R<2> and/or NR<3>R<4> or NR<1>-C-NR<3> or NR<2>-C-NR<4> = a 4-9-membered ring, which may contain oxygen (-O-), sulfur (-S-), imino (-NH-) or carbonyl (C=O) instead of methylene (-CH2-) group(s) and may be substituted by halogen, OH, carboxyl, amino or carbonamido groups; X = F, Cl or Br; A = an anion An Independent claim is also included for laundry and other detergents containing 1-60 wt.% of a peroxy compound and 0.05-20 wt.% of a compound of formula (I).
