[origin: DE19642410A1] Method and device for winding a roll beam (10) wherein multiple threads (11) are wound between the side disks (12) of the roll beam almost entirely across its width and the position of the side disks (12) of the roll beam (10) in relation to the multiple threads is detected according to a measuring technique, both are lined up accordingly and deviations of relative positions from line-up are corrected during winding as thickness of winding is measured by optical sensors (14) in each case close to disks (12) and between disks (12), whereupon measurement values of side disk areas are compared with measurement values of middle area, and measures are taken to eliminate deviations between these values. In order to enable corrective action to have automatic effect on coil as well as during winding process and to maintain the possibility of using a press roller to act on the winding, the threads wound onto the roll beam (10) are compressed by a press roller (17) which is located on the side where said threads are wound thereon and optical distance sensors are used as optical sensors (14,14') which are securably mounted below press roller (17).
