Abstract (en)
[origin: GB2332020A] A method of cleaning a zip fastener during it's manufacture comprises applying a cleaning solution 2 to the fastener 6, leaving the cleaning solution 2 on the fastener 6 for a period of time, and then rinsing the fastener 6, prior to finishing. The cleaning solution 2 preferably contains a surface active agent, such as IMEROL RS (RTM), and an acid, such as sulfuric acid or oxalic acid, or an alkali, such as sodium hydroxide. In operation the cleaning solution 2 may be dripped onto the fastener 6 by a metering pump 14 as the fastener 6 is fed between rollers 8, 10. The fastener is then left to stand, preferably for 20 minutes to one hour, before being rinsed in a rinsing and brushing machine 13 and then dried in a vacuum drying station (not shown). For final finishing the fastener is then dipped in a paraffin bath 15.
