[origin: WO9902245A1] The invention relates to a method for operating a cross-flow filtration installation for a product. Said installation comprises a filtration module (6), a pipe (3) for supplying the product, a pipe (9) for removing the product, a pump (4) with an electric motor (12) for circulating the product and a regulator valve (5') for controlling the supply flow (Q1) of the pump (4). So as to enable the installation to deliver its maximum inherent filtration output when the product contains a high proportion of solid material without creating a risk to operating safety due to overload, the strength of the operating current (i1) of the electric motor (12) is measured. Said operating current (i1) is set at the maximum permitted value by controlling the supply flow (Q1) of the pump (4) by means of the regulator valve (5') via a control unit (20).
