Abstract (en)

[origin: WO9816477A1] An aqueous solution with a tendency towards scaling is passed through an electrolysis chamber having at least two reversible electrodes (6) and a bipolar electrode (7). The polarity of the electrodes (6) is reversed at time intervals. An alternating current can be applied alternatively to the electrodes instead of a direct current with regular pole reversal of electrodes. This method of processing enables scaling to be reduced considerably or even prevented, and the salt content of the solution is substantially maintained. The method is especially suitable to reduce or prevent scaling from natural waters, without substantially impairing water quality.
