[origin: EP0933510A2] A V-shaped space (35) between the cylinders rows contains a mixer chamber (34) directly next to an outer wall (38) of the coolant jackets (26,28) of the cylinders (12,14,16,18). The chamber is connected to the coolant return channel and the coolant discharge openings (32) of the cylinder heads (22,24). The chamber is open on one side and has a cover (42). This is positioned to form a coolant intake channel (44) in the V-space. Intake channel and mixer chamber can be selectively connected via a thermostat (46). The cover carries a temperature sensor, which projects into the coolant return channel.
