Abstract (en)
The system uses a step-up transformer for temporary high voltage to start the discharge lamp. The starting circuit for an arc lamp (5) which is to be operated by a high-frequency electronic generator (1,3) comprises a control circuit (10) for a high-voltage transformer (8). The transformer has a secondary winding (7) which is connected in series in the supply circuit for the lamp. Further components (12,14,15,16) are arranged to short circuit the secondary when the supply current for the lamp attains a predetermined value. This short-circuiting system includes a relay (14) with its contacts (15) placed in a short circuit with the secondary. This is linked to a current transformer detecting the lamp current and to a DC voltage source (VA).
