[origin: EP0936065A1] A roller for applying fluid to the web (27)held on the print roller has an elastic absorbent sleeve (23) to apply the fluid through contact with the print roller. Recesses (24) in the sleeve are aligned with the web clamps (28) on the print roller. The elastic sleeve has several layers on a firm support layer (34). To assist fitting and removal of the sleeve air jets inside the roller apply pneumatic pressure between the sleeve and the roller to form an air cushion.
