[origin: EP0936436A1] The device comprises a support (2) which may, for example, be mounted behind an anti-tank missile. This includes an assembly of coils (E), each of which includes a coil made of stainless steel, and a specific metal wire intended to radiate IR. The metal wire is made from a combustible refractory material. The device also includes an electric heating element in order to initiate the combustion of the metal wire. The metal wire is made from a specific combination of elements, but may include tantalum, chromium or zirconium as its major component. The intensity of the burning of the wire is controlled by the delivery of oxygen from a compressed gas source.
