[origin: WO9746716A1] A process to detect hepatitis C virus (HCV) specific nucleic acids comprising the steps of: (a) reverse transcribing the viral RNA by means of a primer having specified sequences; (b) amplifying by a single polymerase chain reaction (PCR) with a specific primer; wherein the Mg<++>/Taq polymerase ratio in the reaction mix is of approx. 100 nmoles/enzyme unit; (c) revealing the amplified product by means of the DEIA method using a specific probe.
