[origin: DE19823805A1] The device has guides composed of facing walls, open on both sides. The successive guide walls are aligned at an angle to each other, in relation to the longitudinal axis of the assembly. A gap is set between neighboring wall sections, which have a circular cross-section as rods and the like. The gap is decreased in the direction of material travel. The positions of the guide wall sections are fixed, and they rotate to advance the sliver material, or at least one wall section has a variable position through sliding, swinging, etc. The walls of a guide are parallel to each other. A guide and a sliver funnel alternate behind each other. The guide is a web funnel at the outlet from a carding machine or a sliver funnel (34) at the end of a drawing unit, located in front of two take-off rollers (31,32). The guide (34) works with a measuring unit (40) to register the thickness of the sliver.
