Abstract (en)
[origin: DE19739653A1] The invention relates to a method for generating and supplying high pressurized fuel to a high pressure storage area of a fuel injection system of an internal combustion engine, whereby fuel is delivered from a tank (2) by means of a low lift pump (6) configured as a fore-pump and supplied to the intake side of a high pressure pump (14). A part of the fuel delivered by the low lift pump is used for lubricating the high pressure pump. In order to lower the temperature level and to increase the overall efficiency of the motor, the method is carried out in such a way that the flow rate of the low lift pump or the delivery pressure on the pressure side of the low lift pump is controlled according to the instantaneously required fuel quantity determined by the transducer and a control device. In addition, a lubrication flowing quantity which is independently constant from pressure on the pressure side is branched from the feeding current of the low lift pump and a residual cutoff current of the high pressure pump intake side is supplied.
