[origin: EP0937572A2] A press or press installation has an electric drive according to the linear motor principle, with press frame (1), press table (2) and at least one press rod (3) for accommodating workpiece lower and upper parts (4). Each press rod is supported in the frame so that it can move back and forth. The main drive of the press rod occurs by drive devices according to the linear motor principle and the linear motors necessary for this is located between the press frame and inside this and the press rod or each of the press rods. The linear motors are located as direct drives in the region of the guides (8) of the press rod. The guide devices are replaced by linear motors between press frame and press rod.
