[origin: EP0937800A2] When a new stitch is formed the sinkers (3) between the needles (5) initially move at the same speed as the needles (5) to maintain yarn tension, assisted by the shape of the working edge of the sinkers. Once the yarn loop is held securely in the needle (5) the sinkers (3) are retracted. An Independent claim is included for a flat bed knitting machine having the cams required for controlling the sinker movement accordingly.
