A cosmetic comprises water-soluble or water-dispersible polyurethanes prepared from the following components: (a) at least one polymer that has two active hydrogen atoms per molecule and is selected from polytetrahydrofurans, polysiloxanes and their mixtures; (b) at least one polyester diol; (c) at least one compound that has a molecular weight of 56-300 and contains two active hydrogen atoms per molecule; (d) at least one compound that has two active hydrogen atoms and at least one anionic or anionogenic group per molecule; and (e) at least one diisocyanate; provided that the polyurethane contains no units derived from primary or secondary amines containing ionic or ionogenic groups.
