Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0941777A2] Resistance to leaching can be achieved if the residue from the refuse furnace is treated immediately after combustion by heating it to a temperature between 400 and 600 degrees C in a non-oxidizing atmosphere. Adding carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, chlorine or chlorine compounds creates this atmosphere. The air fed into this treatment area is also significantly less than that in the combustion chamber. Ecological regulations require that residues from refuse furnaces, especially when these are to be used as building materials, must be free of products such as heavy metal compounds, which can be leached out.
