[origin: WO9825115A1] Individual sensors are designed as scanning sensors with a micromechanical membrane and are arranged in a grid. The membranes are provided with stamps to establish a contact with a supporting surface. The membranes are made to vibrate by a corresponding driving circuit. The vibrations of the membranes are modified depending on the pressure exercised by the stamps located on the membrane. From the type of modification one can determine whether a ridge or a furrow of the finger structure can be found at the corresponding position.
